Green Sky | Creative

I was recently hired as a part-time cinematographer and video editor at  Green Sky Creative in Royal Oak, MI.  And, needless to say, I am super thrilled to be working there.  I’ve only been there two weeks, and I am already sinking me teeth into some cool projects.  So far I’ve been editing some promotional videos for a Cadillac V-Lab event, and for a Ferrari 458 Challenge Series event.  What makes it even better is that I no longer have to edit from a slow tiny laptop.  At Green Sky, I get to edit on a brand new Mac Pro system with a 27″ Apple Cinema display.  My days of sore eyes (from squinting at tiny masks in AfterEffects) and long overnight render times are over!

I’m also taking my first legitimate business video shoot this week through Green Sky.  I will be flying down to Houston, TX for a Cadillac V-Lab event.  While I’m there I will be capturing both photos and videos for upcoming promotional V-Lab videos.  So, stay tuned to the Green Sky Vimeo account for brand new V-Lab videos.  Shot and edited by yours truly.

Offical 2011 Cannes Film Festival Selection

I just received word that a short film I worked on last summer, titled Public Museum, was officially selected to be shown at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.  Although I was just a grip/electrician/camera assistant, It feels pretty special knowing that something I helped create will be shown alongside of films made by the world’s finest filmmakers.

You can learn more about the film, and see unflattering pictures of me working hard, at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/public.museum?sk=info

Motion Graphics Reel Arrival

I have finally compiled a short, sweet, sampling of my motion graphics work.  Everything you see was created in Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop.

Most of the work shown was created during my internship with the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) hockey team. I had to make all of the graphics 720×480 so they would display properly on the jumbotron.

If you like what you see and want to hire me for your next project, shoot me an e-mail at shaw.johnmartin@gmail.com

USHL Internship Recap

My video production internship with the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) hockey team came to a close last week with the official end of the Jacks regular season.  Looking back I feel extremely blessed to have been a part of this opportunity.  During my time with the Lumberjacks Creative Department I had the opportunity to create 8 original videos, 8 animations, 7 highlight reels, and I designed over 30 JumboTron advertisements.  During home games I was in charge of controlling the JumboTron via the live video switchboard.  Not to mention, I even got to sport around as the Jacks new mascot, “Ollie Ollie Oxen Freeze,” for a day

To commemorate my time with the Lumberjacks, I have decided to post two of my favorite videos from the internship.

This video was created for the Season Ticket Holders Brunch, and it was designed to capture the events and excitement of the 2010-2011 Lumberjacks season.  To create the video I compiled found footage (taken prior to my arrival) along with footage I captured on my Canon 60D.

The idea for this video came from my love for making remix videos.  Throughout the season we  played this video during intermissions and long stoppages of play.  I’d like to thank Jacks broadcaster Christopher Heimerman for his support of this video.

Lastly, I want to congratulate the Jacks on their first round sweep against Team USA, and I wish them best of luck in their second playoff round against the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders.

To see more of the video content I created for the Muskegon Lumberjacks you can visit either the Lumberjacks’ website or YouTube channel.

Video Internship for MI Hockey Team

I have recently accepted a full-time internship with Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) hockey team.

For the remainder of the Lumberjacks’ season I will be responsible for operating the video board during home games, and creating promotional videos for in-game and online usage.

I’m very excited to be working with sports media for the first time, and I hoping to make some memorable videos and highlight reels.  Stay tuned as I will try to post some of my hockey videos online.

The one difficult part of my job will be growing a nice beard.  Eating pancakes, chopping wood, and wearing flannel already comes naturally to me.
